What They Discovered When They Opened Grandpa’s Dusty Old Trunk

Redditor cluckinho found an old trunk in his grandfather’s house. It had been hidden away in his grandpa’s garage gathering dust, untouched, and unopened. No one knew for sure what it contains inside, so when he finally opened it, the family was shocked with this discovery.

I am unsure of the age of the trunk, said cluckinho.

The chest, he said, was full of historical items that were left there for many years. Digging through its contents, they soon realized the trunk actually belonged to their great great grandfather, JC.

One of the items inside was this John Deere Farming Companion booklet.

A small tube of elixir name “Liquozone” that supposedly cured everything. This type of “medicine” is where the term snake oil comes from.

There were three pairs of glasses in the trunk. People have told him that the blue pair at the bottom are shooting glasses. Some thought they’re glasses use to read invisible ink.

This paper obviously came with a pair of glasses. Amazing how it’s still in near perfect condition.

A few of the antique books that were in the chest. These dates back to the early 1900’s.

They never knew their great great grandpa was a mason until they found this book inside the trunk. This was printed in 1944.

It’s essentially full of the complete rules and symbols of the freemasons.

“Not only was my Great Great Grandfather part of the freemasons, he was also part of the Scottish Rite, which is a higher level of the freemasons. This 10k gold ring is given to Scottish Rite members. On the inside of the ring, there is a latin phrase that reads: virtus junxit mors non separabit. This translates to “Whom virtue unites, death will not separate.”

The trunk was also filled with hundreds of letters. Many of them were from the bank and had old checks in them.

The rest were tax papers and personal letters.
“This letter is from a friend who is glad that my Great Great Grandfather is feeling better, but is sad about the drought.”

Along with being a mason, his great great grandpa was also a socialist. It was common for farmers of his day to be one.
