The annual rice harvest in Niigata Prefecture, Japan can leave quite a lot of leftover straw. To put them into good use, local artists were able to come up with a creative way to transform the leftovers into elaborate giant straw sculptures. Take a look!

The “Straw Art Festival” in Kamizeki lagoon park this year, features 6 huge straw sculptures that were completed following the theme “living creatures.”

Held every August 31st, the “wara” or rice-straw festival, features leftover straw taking the form of massive beasts such as dinosaurs, snakes and insects.

Visitors hoping to catch a glimpse of these unique sculptures can go to Uwasekigata Park in Niigata City’s Nishikan Ward, where they will remain until the beginning of November.
