In the early 20th century, a man in Nevada started digging in search for water to improve the agriculture on his ranch. He knew that if he could dig a well, the ample water would supply bountiful crops in that harsh and dry area.
He eventually found what he was looking for, but there was a problem. The water was incredibly hot, over 200 degrees, making it impossible to dig a well at the time. He decided to cap off his ventures and was later forced to forget about his project of supplying the barren desert with a sustainable water source.

In 1964, a team came to the area in search for sources of geothermal energy. Even with better drilling technology, their plan to create a successful well came to a halt as the water was still too hot and the project was once again suspended.

The team, however, didn’t cap their drilling ventures properly, creating a small geyser. Over time, the geyser grew at an incredible rate – not at all a typical geyser. At extreme temperatures and under extreme pressure, it pumps the nutrient-rich water and minerals to the surface creating colorful mounds, giving birth to what is now known as the Fly Ranch Geyser, which has become one of the most beautiful man-made landscapes in the world.
