Sick Of Serving Rude Customers, This Store Owner Puts Up A Sign As Revenge

A store owner named Austin Simms of Roanoke, VA, came up with a brilliant idea after being sick of serving rude customers. He just thought that some of them could use a little help with their manners. So the CUPS Coffee & Tea worker put up a sign indicating that the more polite you are the less you’re going to have to pay.

The sign board reads:

“One small coffee”
$5.00
“One small coffee, please”
$3.00
“Hello, I’d like one small coffee please.”
$1.75

Sometimes we’re so busy, or just plain rude, when we order our morning cup of joe that we forget that the person behind the counter serving us is another human being. The sign is a firm reminder: the more polite the better.

“I decided because I need to solve all the injustices of the world to start charging more for people who didn’t take the time to say hello and connect and realize we’re all people behind the counter,” Simms said.

One Sunday, he sat down and wrote the sign. He was surprised when a swarm of news cameras showed up at the store the following day. He found out that a photo of the sign appeared in a newspaper in England, then it went viral on the internet.
